Fiber is also called roughage to the human body. Fiber is one of the parts of plant-based foods, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, beans and other, etc. This type of food is not breakable by our body. Fiber is a rigid form. Whenever we consume foods with fiber, the food enters our body. It remains undigested and thereby it helps to keep our digestive system healthy and clean. Fiber is also beneficial for making our bowel movements easier, flushing cholesterol, and also they remove harmful carcinogens out from our body.
Benefits of eating fiber rich foods
There are lots of importance and benefits of fiber for us. Fiber is a rigid part of plants that helps in absorbing the water that exists in our body and thereby adding bulk to stool. Dietary fibers, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and many more are useful for increasing the number of weights and gain the size of our stool. And it also helps in softening the stool. For the reduction of the chance of constipation, there should be an easier and soft way to pass a bulky stool. So eat foods with a high amount of fiber and thereby increase the weight as well as the size of the stool. So, fiber has many benefits like
- Helps in weight loss and maintain a healthy weight
- Relieves constipation
- Maintains blood sugar level
- Decrease the amount of cholesterol that exists in our body.
- Guide in staving off hemorrhoids.
- It is also very helpful in preventing colon cancer
- Helps in living longer
- Supports digestion process
- Prevents Bloating in body
- Regular bowel movements
If we eat foods with fiber such as fruits, vegetables or anything which has a high amount of fiber will help to make our food pass more quickly towards every pipe of the stomach and it will also ensure the digestion process easier. The digestion process is one of the important processes that go through our human body. People can live without money, wealth, dress, vehicles, and even we can live without a home but we can’t live without food. No living things in this world can live without food. Eating food is the primary process of a human being. We spend a lot of money and time to cook delicious food and eat them within a minute. As eating is the first and must process in the same way the digestion process is also important as the next and must process after eating food or after consuming drinks.
The process of digestion
One of the main importance and benefits of fiber is that it helps in complete digestion process. Whenever we eat food, first of all, we chew the food. Ptyalin converts starch in the food into maltose (it is a kind of sugar.). Then that food is carried by the esophagus from the mouth to the stomach. After reaching the food to the stomach, the food becomes protein and then the protein is converted to peptones. It creates an acid medium for the action of the enzymes. A fat named emulsifies fat removes the acidic nature from the food that we consume. Fats are removed by converting fats into fatty acids and glycerol.
A digestive enzyme named trypsin converts peptones into amino acids. And the enzyme Amylase converts starch into glucose. After that the digestion process of food becomes complete. For all these processes, fiber, a rigid thing is important in our body. If we eat food with fiber, then it will enable us to make our digestion process easier. Fill your stomach with rich fiber foods, stay healthy and live longer.
Fiber is one kind of carbohydrate that the body is not able to digest. Even though some of the carbohydrates can be broken down into sugar molecules but fiber can’t be broken down into sugar molecules and instead of that it passes through all over the body undigested. Fiber helps to regulate our body’s usage of sugars and thereby helping them to keep hunger and blood sugar under check. Hence it is very important to have a healthy digestive system.
In an average form, there should be 20 to 30 grams of fiber in children’s and adults’ bodies. Fruits and vegetables, grains, and beans are great sources of foods that are rich in fiber.
Types of Fiber
• Soluble fiber
Soluble fiber is one of the fibers which have the ability to dissolves in water, it is helpful to lower glucose levels and in the same way, it also helps to lower blood cholesterol. Oatmeal, nuts, beans, lentils, apples, and blueberries are some foods with soluble fiber.
• Insoluble fiber
Insoluble fiber is one of the fibers which does not dissolve in water, it is useful for food to move through our digestive system, it promotes regularity and thereby helping to prevent constipation. Wheat, bread, whole grain couscous, brown rice, legumes, carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes- these are some foods with insoluble fiber.
By now you must have understood the importance and benefits of fiber. Eating food is as equal as sending the food for a pretty long journey by saying bye from the outer world to another world that exists within our body. This journey is traveled by food through the alimentary canal which is a bit longer than 9.5 meters in length. During this journey of food from the mouth to the stomach, food travel through the different parts of our body. At a particular place, the useful substances that exist within food as well as within our body are separated or absorbed the fiber which lays in those foods which are rich in fiber. And at some other places, the unwanted substances are separated and discouraged so the consumption of food with high amounts of fiber is very necessary and beneficial to our body.
